All of our dogs are family. Whether with us for 9 weeks, 5 years, or a lifetime, a Lab in our care is cherished family and our sacred charge. Decisions about what is best for each of our Labs, therefore, must transcend the sentimental: from time to time we offer mature dogs for adoption in order to avoid compromising on standards of care or parsing attention were our population to grow too large. We do not make decisions to adopt our adults lightly, and when we seek companion homes for our adults, we are committed to finding the right situation for them. Every dog is an individual, and each deserves a custom fit.
If you are on the search for a good Lab but not in a "puppy stage" frame of mind or circumstances, we welcome inquiries. Please share details of your life and intentions, so that together we can make an evaluation if one of our adults is a good fit for your family and lifestyle, and you for their personality. Loblolly's Beeswing, aka, "Ramona"
Hi, everyone. Chances are if you found this page you are a Loblolly family already, so we really appreciate your checking in on us. Things have changed here a bit since we took over the family line in 2016: we have two college graduates and have retired all of our initial TN cohort. Several veterans are still here with us, but a few have gone to new families to share less of the limelight ;) Our population is in constant flux though as we navigate maintaining the right size population with the dogs best suited to farm life.
We are proud to offer currently for adoption, Ramona... NOT a pest: her name isjust an homage to a favorite childhood author.
Ramona is lovely in body and soul, but she is best suited to being a full-time house dog, so that's what we'd like for her.
Please peruse the details below, then contact us with questions or for more information at LoblollyLabradors@gmail.com
Best regards, Eve & Chris
Ramona is up to date on vaccines and all requisite flea/heartworm prevention protocols. She is not yet a year old, so while she has reached her full height, she has not yet her full potential. Her body still has some filling out to do. We would, respectfully, require as a condition of her adoption that she be allowed to develop until 16 months of age before spaying.
She is healthy and sound, equipped well for walks, and an expert at running around the yard then returning at your call. She is not terribly interested in retrieving, although she does love carrying her toys around, so that tendency very well may come, as it sometimes does, later. I would not categorize her as an inveterate retriever, but would say with cultivation, she'll enjoy a good round of "throw the tennis ball" with you.
Ramona is accustomed to the company of other dogs and gets along beautifully with them, although she is a bit nonplussed by strange, smaller dogs, so would need some time understanding their "function." (She gets along well with our Cavalier KC Spaniel, so I feel confident that she'll adjust fine, she just doesn't have a lot of experience yet with a range of dog types. She does do fine with our cat Magritte).
Ramona is beautiful with a pleasing head and thoughtful gaze. Her coat is gorgeous, and you will deeply envy its thickness and luster, remembering what it was like to once be so youthful and perfect.
Ramona is very well behaved in the house. At night she should be initially crated or enclosed in a small room so that she cannot roam the house, but she'll quickly adapt to the rhythms and nature of your household, and then can sleep wherever you deem best.
Ramona has not been around small children yet, but she is a Labrador, so if you know Labradors, you know Ramona will love the kids.
Ramona walks very gingerly on the leash with no tugging or darting around. Generally, she just likes to be near people, so her MO is to stay pretty close by, and she'll readily come when called (Although I would not represent her as obedience trained, she is simply smart and well-behaved. She does sit for her food, as she knows that rushing the bowl is undignified and not allowed.)
Ramona comes from a long line of beautiful and sound, well-bred Labs, representative of our Windancing heritage. Her sire is Tonto and her dam, Bellamy, both of whom are cleared for hip, elbow, and eye health, and proven producers of outstanding Labradors.
Ramona is being placed in order to keep our adult population to a manageable and ethical size, and because we know that placing her with a family where she'll be "number one dog" is in her best interests.
Ramona's adoption price is $2500 limited AKC registration.
