Offering a 40 year line of well-bred AKC Labs for companionship, hunting, service, and show
Welcome

A CLASSIC BREED

"Friendly, active, outgoing..."
Thus, the American Kennel Club describes the temperament that has endeared the Labrador Retriever to families and sportsmen world wide. Developed to withstand outdoor conditions and to perform with grace in hunting and service endeavors, the breed now offers a highly functional, intelligent, and companionable choice for everyone, as it adapts readily to the needs and desires of its human family.

LOBLOLLY LABRADORS is committed to maintaining the integrity of the Labrador through thoughtful stewardship of each individual dog and the breed itself.
We consider our relationship with the heritage of this breed to be a sacred trust.

Purpose

The versatility of the Labrador Retriever has taken the breed far beyond its original purpose of retrieving waterfowl and upland game, although it's still exceptional at these aims if that's your purpose. In the current era, we now find Labradors functioning as America's number one family pet, reliable and loving service dogs, and trustworthy working dogs. Adaptable, responsive, loving... a good Lab is a treasured and valuable member of any circle, and at Loblolly Labradors we are committed to offering you the best qualities of this breed.

General Appearance

The Labrador is an athletic, short-coupled, medium built dog with a short and dense, weather-resistant coat, and the requisite otter tail. The breed comes in three colors only: black, chocolate, and yellow, the latter which can range from nearly white to fox red. Generally, dogs in good physical shape should run 65-80 pounds and bitches, 55-70 pounds. The skull should be wide with a moderate stop, have powerful jaws, and most importantly, frame kind and expressive eyes which show the intelligence and attention of the animal to its companion. Here at Loblolly we strive to remain true to the intent and appearance of the breed by adhering to guidelines of the AKC standard as defined by the Labrador Retriever parent club.

Health

In general, Labradors are a healthy breed, unencumbered by debilitating genetic inheritances. The primary concerns for the breed center around hip/elbow dysplasia and eye disease, both of which can be avoided through careful and reputable breeding programs like the one here at Loblolly Labradors.  We believe in responsible, common sense health screening and stand by the soundness of our dogs. Representing over thirty-five years of experience in breeding, our pedigrees reveal a meaningful narrative of beautiful, healthy, and treasured dogs.

Maintenance & Care

Labradors require light, easy maintenance, and make both excellent house and outdoor dogs. They shed seasonally, an effect which can be minimized with regular, vigorous brushing. Nail trimming and tooth brushing should be performed as with any breed. Food requirements entail a daily, moderate-sized feeding of high-quality kibble. In regards to exercise, while the AKC describes the Labrador as a "high energy" breed, most experienced Lab owners will tell you that the preferred representatives of the breed do enjoy a good romp in the yard or run around the park, but they'll also readily settle down, responsive to the energy cues of their humans.

We welcome you to Loblolly.
